OUR RESCUES

Meet our inspiration.

Broken Saddle Rescue started because of these three beauties: Cassie, Coco and Princess. They were truly broken when we found them, but now they are healthy and thriving. Here are their stories of healing:

Cassie was part of a trio of horses we visited daily for over two years. The neglectful owner removed them in the middle of the night, but we continued to fight for them for six months. There was no greater joy than when the owner agreed for us to have them. Cassie was in the worst shape — a shattered soul, down 400 pounds and a laceration on her ear so deep she almost lost her ear entirely. But after the love and care we showed her, Cassie is now affectionate, beautiful and the kindest soul you will ever meet. She wants nothing more than to bury her head in your chest for a hug and to push her nose into your mouth for a smooch!

Coco was abandoned on a piece of property outside of Houston for 18 months. A nice man in a neighboring property watched over her and fed her on occasion. He contacted us after realizing no one was coming back for her. Coco was initially very broken. She hadn’t known human touch in so long and was afraid of everything and everyone. She spooks at any sudden movement or noise, and is afraid of water. Her hooves were so long and broken that she limped when she walked, and still requires sedation to get her pedicures. You could see her broken spirit in her eyes. BUT NO MORE! Coco now has sisters, shelter and parents. She is oh so loved!

Princess is one of the original three horses we fought to get from a neglectful owner. She was once a ridden and strong girl who was eager to please and love people. After she was taken and returned, with only one of her original siblings, she barely recognized us and it was heartbreaking. She was so sick and skinny that you could count every rib on her body, and she could barely lift her head to unload off of the trailer. After a month or so of consistency with meals and love, we got her health back! She is now a sassy and rambunctious girl rolling in the dirt, eating the water stream at bath time and doing all she can to make us laugh!

They’re living their best life now.

  • We have many goals for Broken Saddle Rescue. Here are just a few of them:

    • Have an on-site riding instructor to offer riding lessons

    • Have a local trainer to teach our rescues all they need to know

    • Outgrow our current barn with rescues, so that we can one day build our own barn on our own property

We want to make rescuing horses a limitless venture. Join us on this ride!

Help us give them a place to heal.

WHO WE ARE

The horse that started it all.

Chevy is the reason we created Broken Saddle. He was part of a trio of horses that were ignored and unloved by their owner. For two years, I fed them and loved them, but sadly, the owner removed them from the property. I offered to buy them for six months because I was willing to do anything to save their lives. The owner finally agreed to sell the horses to me after admitting that Chevy had ingested something and passed away. I was shattered. When I finally saw the remaining girls, their state proved to me that Chevy’s death was not an accident or even a bad circumstance. They had lost 400 pounds each and had lacerations everywhere. It was a long road to get them healthy again, but now they are thriving! So, in memory of our sweet Boy Chevy…Broken Saddle was created so no other horse has to endure what he did. We want all horses to live their best life! (By Chassidie Pommier, founder)

THE FOUNDERS

The heart behind the mission.

We are just a group of animal lovers who refuse to watch animals in pain, be mistreated or neglected. We have to do something! We work hard to save these animals and give them the lives God intended them to have — full of love, life’s essentials, shelter and companionship. We do everything possible with the resources we have, and pledge to do even more with your help! Our passion continues to grow, as does our rescue, and we are eternally grateful for all of the volunteers, donations and attention our rescue gets each and every day.
